Education Nation Soaked

Downpours in New York City this morning soaked Day 2 of NBC News’s Education Nation. The conference, some of which has been carried on MSNBC and NBC, is being held on Rockefeller Plaza, including a tented space over the area that is the skating rink in the Winter months.

The worst of it began around 8:50amET. NBC crews, concerned about safety of participants, evacuated the area bringing a halt to the conference for about 45 minutes just as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was about to speak.

Bloomberg went on with the speech from MSNBC’s studio, giving the mayor 14 minutes of national airtime to talk about his city’s education initiatives. The cable channel then aired a discussion with Tom Brokaw and Newark, NJ major Cory Booker, whose city schools just received $100M from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The rest of the day’s panel discussions have been moved to studios inside the GE building. The Weather Channel’s Stephanie Abrams, anchoring her show from New York, covered the news via Twitter (picture above):

Had to stop show, because they are worried about the Education Nation tents leaking! Headed to tent to chk it out!!!

Education Nation continues tomorrow, and there is more rain in the forecast.
