Jamie Gangel Leaves NBC News After 31 Years

Jamie GangelVeteran NBC News correspondent Jamie Gangel has left the network after 31 years, TVNewser has learned.

For the last two decades, Gangel served as National Correspondent for “Today,” and also contributed reports to “Nightly News.”

“After 31 years as an award-winning journalist at NBC News and the Today Show, Jamie decided to retire. We are grateful for her many contributions and we wish her the very best,” an NBC News spokesperson tells TVNewser.

“I was with NBC for 31 years, and they were wonderful to me, and I have nothing but the best things to say about them,” Gangel told TVNewser via phone. In those 31 years, she interviewed six presidents, conducted the only interview with actor Robert Downey Jr. from prison, celebrities from Eric Clapton to rapper 50 Cent, and reported extensively from Europe, Africa, and South America.

“I’ve never not worked a day in my life, so I’m gonna take off six months,” she tells us, adding that she is eager to spend time with her family, which includes her twin children Nicholas and Lily, and her husband, New York Times best-selling novelist Daniel Silva.
