Position Summary
The full-time Library Assistant provides high-quality library services, supporting routine tasks and enhancing customer experiences at the West Boulevard Branch Library located at 2157 West Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28208.
Schedule
Full-time, benefit-eligible, 40 hours/week, including Mondays, Tuesdays 8:00am – 5:00pm; Wednesdays 9:00am – 6:00pm; Thursdays 11:00am – 8:00pm; Fridays and Saturdays (alternate weekly) 8:00am – 5:00pm.
Essential Functions
- Promote library collections and services
- Perform circulation activities
- Provide service desk coverage
- Manage materials transfer and shelving duties
- Assist customers with research and library systems
- Collaborate on programming and outreach
- Assist with volunteer management
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum one year of customer service experience, including library or retail
- High school diploma or equivalent
Relevant education and experience may be combined.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of integrated library systems (e.g., Polaris)
- Bilingual skills
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of alpha-numeric sorting, inventory management, and library systems
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills
- Adaptability, effective communication, and collaboration skills
Computer Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and design software like Canva.
Work Environment
Shared office setting with moderate/high noise; some nights and weekends required.
