Position Summary The Full-time Library Assistant provides high-quality libraryservices, delivering value-added experiences for all customers while performingroutine tasks that support overall library operations. This position is part ofthe Access Services Department at Independence Regional Library. Our branchserves a diverse community and has a significant daily influx of teenagers dueto our proximity to East Mecklenburg High School. As part of this role, staffshould be comfortable engaging with teens in a positive, professional, andsupportive manner while maintaining a welcoming environment for all customers.

Schedule:

Full-time, benefit-eligible(40 hours per week). All staff work on a rotating schedule that typicallyincludes

one evening shift per week and weekend rotations . Day shift: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Evening shift: 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Weekend rotation: Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. During the school year, rotations include both Saturday and Sunday. During summer hours, rotations are limited to Saturdays only.

Essential Functions Promote the library's collection and services Perform circulation activities Provide service desk coverage Provide materials to appropriate bins for transfer Provides research assistance to customers Utilize integrated library systems software Assisting customers at several service points Training and assisting customers on various library policies, procedures, andprocesses Collaborating with Librarians to deliver programming and outreach services Assisting with volunteer management Perform shelving and weeding duties

Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of one year of customer service experience, includinglibrary or retail. Education: High School diploma or equivalent

PreferredQualifications Knowledge of integrated library systems software (IE, Polaris) Bilingual

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Alpha-numeric sorting systems Various library systems Telephone etiquette

Computer Skills Proficient in various computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite

Work Environment Works in an office setting with moderate noise. Scheduleswill include some nights and weekends. Dueto the branch's proximity to East Mecklenburg High School, staff can expectfrequent interaction with teens and should be comfortable engaging with thisage group in a positive and professional manner.
