Position Announcement
This isn't your average campus gig-you'll be part of communications that support projects with state leaders and policy makers. The Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy at UVU is hiring a Communications Intern to help craft messages, reports, and content that share the impact of our work.
You'll gain hands-on experience writing, editing, and supporting communications for initiatives that reach beyond campus and into the community. Along the way, you'll sharpen your professional skills and contribute to projects that have real impact. If you're organized, curious, and want an internship where your work actually matters, this role is for you. Summary of Responsibilities
The Communications and Social Media Intern assists the Executive Director of the Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy and the Communications Manager with supporting, planning, and executing communications focused on student engagement in policy and politics, holding each external communication to a high-quality standard. Responsibilities include writing content, marketing, possibly posting on social media posts (including Facebook, Instagram, and X), ) and keeping track of social media metrics, and recording and editing reels for social media, meeting with the Communications Manager to assess and plan for communications needs, assist with annual report, and other communications needs as determined by the Senior Director and Communications Manager
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Must be a current UVU student. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Proficient using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Instagram, Facebook; email and web searches. Intermediate knowledge of video editing software and how to grow a social media following. Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading skills, and speaking.? Excellent interpersonal skills, both in person and by phone, with high professionalism.? Good decision-making/analytical skills to work effectively under tight deadlines. Ability to organize, prioritize and to handle multiple projects at once.? Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision. Intermediate knowledge of PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Canva. A background or minimal understanding of graphic design is a plus
