Overview
Location: Denver, CO. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location. This position serves offenders of multiple classification levels in an adult correctional facility, under the direction of a Regional Librarian, Programs Manager, and Programs Supervisor. The library designs and implements administrative operations, including procedures manuals, work planning, budget oversight, and coordination with other facility areas in emergencies.

Primary Responsibilities
Under supervision, supervise the daily operation of an adult correctional facility library serving inmates. Responsibilities include designing and revising procedures, creating and updating manuals, planning and assigning work, establishing work standards, monitoring quality and workflow, managing library funds, solving operational problems, and applying library policies. This position may assist in other areas during emergencies. This role works directly with inmates.
- Respond to information requests via reference interviews and locate information
- Provide instruction on information literacy and library skills; manage interlibrary loan selections and procedures; screen requests for compliance
- Provide library service to inmates in restricted areas who cannot visit the library
- Recommend materials to meet educational, informational, and recreational needs
- Assign classification numbers and subject headings for new materials
- Monitor behavior, enforce rules, file incident reports, and resolve conflicts
- Prepare annual funding requests and report expenditures; compile monthly narrative and statistical reports
- Supervise inmate library clerks and provide training
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of technical or high-level clerical experience, or a combination of college coursework and related experience equal to three years. Work experience part-time is prorated. If using education to meet qualifications, attach unofficial college transcripts showing name, institution, degree, and date conferred.

- High-level clerical: document creation, office procedures, program materials, and managing unit funds

- Ability to work directly with inmates in a prison environment; exceptional interpersonal skills
- Ability to train/instruct others; proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; strong stress management
- Ability to create accessible documents following plain language guidelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant experience with the State of Colorado
- Knowledge of library services; experience with an integrated library system
- Experience selecting, processing, shelving, and maintaining library materials; experience with diverse populations

Conditions of Employment
- Must be 21 years of age
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with a safe driving record
- High school diploma or GED
- No felony convictions as described in policy

- Success in Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training and related fitness requirements
- Meet physical requirements for Defensive Tactics and related training
- Willing to travel and work varying shifts
- TB screening and ongoing fitness to work in a correctional environment
