Who We Are Looking For
The Specifications Writer will collaborate with project managers and project architects to develop comprehensive technical specifications that reflect Populous’ quality and sustainability standards. The preferred candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in specifications development within the AEC industry and an interest in a dynamic global design environment with a range of public assembly building types, including sports venues, convention centers, and transportation facilities.
What Your Day Could Consist Of
- Writing, editing, and coordinating fully integrated Architectural project specifications based on Masterspec formatting and CSI numbering systems.
- Reviewing drawings and other documents to write and edit specifications, coordinating compliance with project requirements, Populous standards, technical conditions, and applicable codes.
- Interpreting design requirements and integrating sustainable design initiatives into specifications.
- Participating in QA/QC reviews and checking project documents throughout construction phases.
- Performing product research to assist with material selection and system research.
- Proposing continual development of master specifications and mentoring emerging specification writers and architectural staff.
Requirements For Success
- Comprehensive knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, design trends, products, construction methodology, building systems, material application, and vendor appropriateness.
- Advanced knowledge of construction procedures and schedules.
- Understanding of building envelope components, interior plans, and material requirements across building types (preferably sports, convention centers, aviation, healthcare, higher education, and other large assemblies).
- Advanced knowledge of building codes with the ability to research and apply findings to technical documents.
- Awareness of industry reference standards and resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Proficiency in BLUEBEAM, NewForma, and specifications software such as VisiSpecs is preferred.
- Detail-oriented, fast learner, and able to adapt to new responsibilities.
- Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work independently and within a team; strong initiative for process improvement.
Essential Qualifications
Required
- An accredited bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Building Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years in architectural practice with experience in specifications development.
- Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification from the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
Preferred
- Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) certification from CSI.
- LEED Green or equivalent experience in sustainable design.
Additional Details
- Occasional travel to the Kansas City office may be required.
Compensation
- Projected salary range: $93,413 - $106,767 annually (may vary by skills, experience, and education).
