Digital Content Specialist: Engineering Communication, Tickle College of Engineering - UTK. The Tickle College of Engineering Office of Communications at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) seeks to hire a digital media specialist to promote activities of faculty and students through digital channels. The role collects, creates, and implements electronic media content on a variety of digital platforms, reflecting UI/UX and SEO best practices within brand guidelines and current accessibility standards. The position posts content to departmental social media accounts as part of the college and department’s strategic content plan. Hybrid schedule: in-office two days per week, remote the rest.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, updates, and maintains content for departmental websites.
  • Creates content for the college and its administrative unit websites.
  • Creates and maintains a digital content plan for each department aligned with the college’s overall content plan and department priorities.
  • Maintains analytics data for websites and emails; uses data to build content plans and distribution models.
  • Cross-posts content from departmental websites to other digital platforms as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the digital team on larger departmental website redesigns.
  • Works individually with faculty to set up and train them on personal research websites.
  • Uses email marketing platforms to create newsletters and analyzes content effectiveness to meet strategic priorities for multiple audiences.
  • Coordinates social media posts for departmental accounts and cross-posts with college channels.
  • Meets with clients about ongoing digital projects, individually or as a team.
  • May work on video projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s Degree in communications, marketing, web design, English, or related field
  • Experience: 2+ years of professional experience directly related to duties
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: General knowledge of accessibility standards, SEO, information architecture, user-centered design; demonstrated knowledge of Adobe Creative software; WordPress or other CMS; strong organizational skills; ability to write for multiple digital platforms; excellent written and verbal communication; ability to manage multiple projects; experience managing professional social media accounts; ability to work independently and in a team; receptiveness to feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related fields
  • Experience: 4+ years of professional experience
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Proficient web coding and development processes; strong understanding of online marketing and design principles; interactive design and information architecture skills; ability to think conceptually and negotiate effectively; basic video editing skills; advocates for best practices in electronic communications.
