This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
The Myers Park Library is located on Queens Road in Charlotte, NC. The Myers Park Library serves a close-knit community in Charlotte’s historic Myers Park neighborhood, located near Uptown Charlotte and Queens University. As the city’s oldest library, it has long been a cherished institution for many customers, some of whom have frequented the branch since childhood. This location offers specialized, high-level research assistance—particularly for college students and genealogy enthusiasts. Additionally, the Myers Park Branch is trusted by its customers for daily Readers’ Advisory services and personalized technology support.
The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for teens. The Library Associate leads age-appropriate programs for preteens, teens, and emerging adults, and manages the teen volunteer program. This position represents the library in the community and facilitates outreach to various area partners. The Library Associate participates in systemwide teams and works collaboratively with staff in Teen Services. Demonstrated success in building and sustaining collaborative partnerships with both the library community and external organizations, fostering positive and lasting relationships with patrons and community stakeholders. The incumbent will be responsible for staffing a busy information desk, serving customers of all ages, providing exemplary service to all customers through technology, computer assistance, research, and readers’ advisory from the information desk. The Library Associate serves as a regular manager-on-duty.
Schedule includes a minimum of two evening shifts per week and a rotating weekend schedule.

Position Summary
Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions
- Programming for preteens, teens and emerging adults
- Build and maintain relationships with outreach sites and partnerships
- Manage Teen Volunteers
- Prepare monthly program reports and statistics
- Provide research assistance to customers
- Utilize integrated library systems software
- Provide service desk coverage
- Maintain library’s collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
- Promote and market library’s programs; collaborate with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
- Design and provide developmentally appropriate programs for ages 9 to 24
- Create and maintain attractive and appropriate bulletin boards and displays
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/Experience: Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual - Spanish communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)
- Experience working with preteens, teens and/or emerging adults
- Experience delivering programs in the community (e.g., schools, nonprofits, parks, etc.)

Works in an open office setting with moderate noise. Routinely provides service at outreach locations (e.g., schools, nonprofits, parks, etc.).
