This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant's salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
Schedule: Full Time 40 hours per week, Benefit Eligible
M- F 8:00am - 5:00pm
Works one evening per week 11:00a - 8:00pm
Rotating weekends
Location: South Boulevard Library, 4429 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28209
The South Boulevard Library is located on South Boulevard, just 0.60 miles from the Lynx Blue Line Scaleybark Station. Originally opened in 1985 as the Scaleybark Library, this location is a 18,850-square foot building and a convenient location for the many customers in this growing area along South Boulevard. The new branch includes new, reimagined spaces for both children and teens, public computers, children's computers, a large community room, a programming room, a quiet reading room, a calming room, five group study rooms, a computer lab and a laptop bar for customers who want to bring their own devices, and many collaborative spaces. The South Boulevard Library has one of the largest Spanish and bilingual (Spanish/English) collections to serve its large Spanish-speaking community, and a growing Hindi collection.
The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for youth services. This position leads age-appropriate programs for babies, toddlers, preschool, school age and preteens. The Library Associate represents the library in the community and facilitates outreach to various area partners. This position participates in systemwide teams and works collaboratively with staff in Children's Services to bring innovative and relevant programming to the community. Demonstrated success in building and sustaining collaborative partnerships with both the library community and external organizations, fostering positive and lasting relationships with patrons and community stakeholders. Supervisory skills are highly desirable. The incumbent will also be responsible for staffing a busy information desk, serving customers of all ages.
South Boulevard Library is committed to providing exemplary service to all customers through technology, computer assistance, research, and readers' advisory from a single service desk. The Library Associate serves as a regular manager-on-duty. Previous experience with branch operations, opening/closing a facility and cash handling procedures. The Library Associate should have strong technology and computer skills. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative team player and a strong individual contributor with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Position Summary
Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions
Programming for children ages 0 - 12
Build and maintain relationships with outreach sites and partnerships
Prepare monthly program reports and statistics
Provide research assistance to customers
Utilize integrated library systems software
Provide service desk coverage
Perform circulation activities such as book drop, shelving, and shelf-reading
Create and deliver programs to age-appropriate audiences
Provide research and computer assistance to customers
Utilize integrated library systems software
Provide service desk coverage
Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
Maintain library's collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
Assist with volunteer management
Promote and markets library's programs; collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
Create and maintain attractive and appropriate bulletin boards and displays
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/Experience

Bilingual - Spanish communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)
