Pay
Base pay range: $15.00/hr - $17.00/hr
Job Summary
The basic function of a Service Writer is to ensure efficient service delivery of vessel maintenance; the Service Writer receives, tracks and updates customers on the status of maintenance requests through completion. The position advances tasks/projects as delegated which are deemed necessary to the service writing function. The role assumes a quasi-supervisory responsibility only in the absence of department management.
Essential Functions & Duties
- Receive customer requests for vessel service
- Compose work orders to be distributed to the appropriate work area
- Collaborate with mechanics on progress and provide updates to customers as necessary
- Maintain accurate records for reference purposes
- Perform related billing and invoicing tasks
- React productively to other duties as reasonably assigned
Qualifications
- Incumbent must possess high levels of interpersonal and communication skills to perform the essential functions of the position
- Computer literacy and knowledge of office software programs
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Education
Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required; post-secondary certification in marine industry or related field preferred.
Experience
Mechanical background in marine industry or related field preferred.

- Knowledge of APM marina services and amenities
- Skills to tactfully resolve guest problems or concerns
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in fire extinguisher operation
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in ISO/EMS awareness
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in employee orientation
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazard communication
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazardous materials response/respiratory protection
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in emergency response
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in recyclable materials
- Knowledge or ability to be trained in blood borne pathogen awareness
- Basic knowledge of boat operation; basic knowledge of boat manufacturer products and functions
- Knowledge of computer systems and software
Supervision and Access
- Supervision level: Moderately supervised
- Does not have supervisory responsibilities including hiring/firing/performance appraisals

Working Conditions
The work may occur in office settings, confined spaces such as boat hulls, public or common areas; inclement weather conditions may be a factor. General industry levels of noise and stimuli expected.
Physical Demands
Sitting or standing for extended periods; lifting and moving heavy objects; climbing, crouching, reaching and other movements in work areas such as boats, docks.
English Proficiency
Ability to communicate effectively in English (speaking, understanding, reading, and writing) for general interactions with staff, guests and customers. Additional languages welcome but not required.
