The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. The SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (27 months). The school’s mission emphasizes access, opportunity, and community transformation, with a focus on recruiting students who are underrepresented in medicine and training culturally competent health professionals and scientists to address healthcare needs in medically underserved communities. The SoM also seeks to enhance recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to reflect the diversity of the student body.
The Communications Electronic Media Manager will develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy aligned with the SoM’s goals, target audience, and brand identity. The role collaborates with the Communications, Marketing, and Public Relations team to drive brand awareness and engagement through strategic content marketing. It oversees the creation of high-quality content across platforms including websites, blogs, social media, and email marketing campaigns, and involves optimizing content for search engine optimization (SEO) and ensuring consistent brand messaging in collaboration with cross-functional teams to support marketing and medical education initiatives.
In addition to the overview, the Communications Electronic Media Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Develops, implements, and maintains content for the SoM website and social media channels including development, accessibility, content updates, page design and graphics, and user experience for the internal website and intranet site.
- Collaborate with designers, videographers, and other stakeholders to oversee the creation of visually appealing and multimedia-rich assets. Ensure brand consistency and compliance with the SoM style guide and voice across all content deliverables.
- Creates and manages editorial calendar to deliver timely content across digital platforms; develops a yearly social media plan to share with university social media collaborators.
- Establishes measurable goals for website and social media accounts, implements tools for measuring effectiveness, and analyzes results to make data-driven content decisions. Reviews analytics regularly to determine how users interact with content and uses data to inform decisions.
- Improves user experience and maintains effective information architecture, including overseeing and executing testing strategies to ensure continuous traffic improvements. Researches industry trends, market insights, and competitor analysis to inform content development and identify opportunities.
- Ensures publishing of engaging and SEO-friendly content, including articles, blog posts, website copy, social media posts, and email newsletters. Assists with basic design projects such as creating fillable PDFs, internal invitations, presentations, and requests from the Dean’s Office and SoM faculty and staff.
- Manages and maintains content repositories including CMS; ensures content is organized and accessible for future use. Monitors content performance metrics and makes data-driven recommendations.
- Stays updated with industry best practices, emerging trends, and evolving content formats to continually enhance content marketing initiatives. Writes and edits publications and internal/external communications as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a content manager, content strategist, web design, or similar role.
- Experience using Modern CMS Omni, PowerPoint, Camtasia, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with a strong command of grammar.
- Ability to create high-quality, engaging, SEO-friendly content across digital and print platforms.
- Familiarity with content distribution and amplification strategies, including social media advertising and influencer marketing.
- Understanding of user experience (UX) principles and web design best practices.
- Familiarity with CMS, HTML, Java, CSS, or other web design protocols.
- Experience using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to monitor content performance and make data-driven decisions.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Analytical mindset to interpret data and optimize content performance.
- Cultural understanding and sensitivity to tailor content to target audience preferences and nuances.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in content management and social media tools like HubSpot and/or Buffer.

- Consults with client staff to assess needs and determine design and technical specifications.
- Plans communications messages, formats, and designs to meet needs and have impact with the intended audience(s).

- Creates and maintains databases, archives, and other content associated with electronic media projects.
- Develops production policies and standards and adheres to communications and branding standards.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $74,249 - $86,741. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
