Overview

The Benicia Public Library is looking to hire On-Call Librarians to join their library team. The Benicia Public Library is a stand-alone municipal library open 7 days a week, serving a community of approximately 30,000 residents and students. The On-Call Librarian I/II's primary responsibilities will be performing reference and circulation assistance at the library's single point of service customer service desk. This position requires a Master’s degree in Library Science. This is a part-time, on-call, as needed position with no set schedule including evening and weekend hours. No insurance benefits will be offered.

Experience and Education

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to acquire the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience

  • Librarian I: None required.
  • Librarian II: Experience as a librarian in a library setting for at least two years with duties including selection of materials, answering reference questions from a public reference desk, and being "in charge" during times when the Library Director is not there.

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited Graduate School of Librarianship with a Master’s degree in Library Science or the equivalent.

Selection Process

Application materials will be carefully evaluated; applicants who document possession of experience and education which most closely meet the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in the next phase of the selection process, which may include an assessment center and interview process. Upon hire, the successful candidate(s) will be required to provide documents of proof of eligibility to be employed in the United States. Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation and a pre-placement medical screening, including a drug screen.
