Part‑Time Faculty: Specialized Topics in PR: Workplace Orientation for PRL (Spring 2026)
Location: Syracuse, NY
Pay Range: $1,440 - $1,550 per credit hour
Pay Determination: salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: Spring 2026 Semester. Class meets Thursdays 5:00pm-8:15pm (April 2, 2026‑April 23, 2026). Office hours required.

Job Description
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an instructor to teach PRL 530 Special Topics in PR: Workplace Orientation for PRL April 2 2026‑April 23 2026 on Thursdays 5:00pm‑8:15pm during the Spring 2026 semester (1 credit).
Course Description: This course provides realistic guidance on job search and career advancement strategies for students seeking public relations/strategic communications careers. Taught by an experienced executive, it will address such topics as workplace expectations, business etiquette, soft skills, networking strategies, emotional intelligence, relationship building, critical thinking, work ethic, developing a growth mindset and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Substantial experience in senior‑level communications positions is required.
Responsibilities
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books on or before the first day of classes.
- Preparing for classes.
- Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
- Grading student assignments and examinations in a timely manner and turning in progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to personally instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet.
- Ability to hold office hours on campus.
- Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
Tools/Equipment
- Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
