Staff the established Protective Services dispatch center with overall auspices of telephone and radio communication, camera and alarm monitoring, handling 155 calls, as well as Computerized Aided Dispatch (CAD) information entries. Control the communications and access control networks in Protective Services Headquarters. Perform varied responsibilities such as triaging communications, written documentation, data entry incident tracking, building access for numerous access points, operating the lost and found system, and patient valuables system. Monitor cameras to support crime prevention efforts via IP video. Monitor alarm annunciation computer systems. Operate radio dispatch and department telephone systems, answering 155 emergency calls and dispatching in coordination with Call Center Operators. Serve as the primary customer contact for routine and emergency calls. Monitor fire alarm systems. All radio and telephone communication should be conducted in a polite and courteous manner at all times. Receive communications for any and all Security related calls for assistance. Use judgment to dispatch officers promptly to assure an appropriate response. Monitor several phone lines, answer calls within three rings, assess severity, and dispatch officers as indicated, without deviation. Prepare and document information using the appropriate IT infrastructure in the dispatch area for all incident and activity documentation related to Safety and Security. Monitor all access control points on owned or leased properties where hospital cameras and card readers are present. Hospital electronic physical security infrastructure supports surveillance and card activity tracking; electronic security is located throughout the hospital to ensure safety, provide access limitations, and support investigations. Log on to security systems and input necessary data for proper statistical analysis (e.g., Software House C-Cure9000 and other relevant security systems) at the beginning of each shift without deviation. Demonstrate general Dispatcher capabilities contributing to efficient and effective department operations; use best judgment and stay cognizant of changing departmental and institutional situations. Demonstrate knowledge of all Codes and Emergency Response Plans. Qualifications

Education Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Expected to successfully complete the department's FTO program. Statewide Emergency Telecommunications certification is preferred. Experience Minimum of one year of quality experience in a Security, Police, Fire, EMS, DMV-type Officer / Peace Officer OR Dispatch position with clerical duties, heavy telephone/radio usage, and rapid/accurate decision making. Minimum one year of computer experience with basic computer skills. Most security systems are proprietary; experience on any system is a plus. Protective Services will train on our systems as needed. Licensure State of CT Guard Card is preferred at date of hire. Upon hire, must meet CT Department of Public Safety licensing requirements for Security Officers. Special Skills Ability to maintain current and accurate records; strong diplomatic communication skills; capable of monitoring security, fire alarms, and cameras. Knowledge of digital radio systems to dispatch personnel. Computer literacy or ability to undergo training to ensure a safe and secure working environment. In-house training to obtain knowledge of Software House CCure9000 Access control system. Proficient in decision making with the ability to listen to complaints or requests for service under duress and dispatch resources accordingly. Familiarity with day-to-day hospital operations critical to Protective Services. Ability to sit for long periods. Additional Information Candidate must have prior dispatching experience.
