Job Skills / Requirements TriCorps Security is hiring professional and motivated Public Safety Communications Officers/Dispatchers to join our team serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In this critical role, you will serve as the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinating and dispatching police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) to ensure public safety. This position requires exceptional communication skills, composure under pressure, and the ability to prioritize rapidly changing situations to provide timely and accurate responses.

Responsibilities

Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service, determine the appropriate response, and gather essential information quickly and accurately.

Dispatch public safety personnel, including police, fire, and EMS units, based on call details and established protocols.

Monitor radio frequencies and coordinate response activities with field units to ensure safety and situational awareness.

Relay clear and concise information to responding units and maintain communication throughout incidents.

Input and update incident data in the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to track units, calls, and resolutions.

Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations, including CPR guidance or evacuation procedures.

Track and document the location, activity, and welfare of all responding personnel until incidents are resolved and closed in the CAD system.

Communicate with neighboring jurisdictions and public safety agencies as needed for mutual aid coordination.

Follow all established call-handling and dispatching procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality service and responder safety.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (required); additional education in communications, public safety, or a related field preferred.

Minimum one year of prior experience in dispatch or telecommunications within a public safety environment (required).

Proficiency with technology, including CAD systems, radio systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain composed in high-stress situations.

Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced setting.

Must be available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.

Schedule & Work Environment

Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
