Job Description The Manager Solutions Design is responsible for supporting the growth of our Supply Chain Solutions offering by developing, designing, and winning new business. Key responsibilities include understanding customer business needs, designing value‑driving solutions, ensuring designs align with Ryder’s operational capabilities, and contributing to proposals that influence customer decisions.
Demonstrate an understanding of customer business needs.
Design solutions that deliver financial value.
Provide feasible designs aligned with customer requirements.
Shape win plans with the pursuit team.
Ensure sustainable designs that match Ryder’s operational & technical capabilities.
Contribute to proposals that influence customer decision‑making.
Support awarded business throughout the startup process and transition design assumptions to Operations and SCE CI resources.
Key Activities Include
Manage a subset of project team members or act as an independent contributor specializing in transport, warehousing, or network design.
Mentor team members on modeling and design techniques to create, redesign, or optimize logistics networks.
Act as a specific solution design specialist, usually focusing on a single discipline.
Effectively communicate design and solutions to internal stakeholders and clients.
Use advanced analytical techniques and concepts to understand business goals.
Essential Functions
Lead cross‑functional teams to ensure solution development aligns with win strategy.
Maintain effective communication across all team members during solution development.
Meet frequently with customers and the bid response team; support technical review presentations and design validation meetings.
Calculate labor, equipment, facility, and expense requirements based on transportation and warehousing design assumptions; develop process flows, concept of operations, and value propositions.
Coordinate with Pricing and other functions to develop cost and pricing models.
Articulate value propositions, Ryder’s differentiated value, and proposed solutions in proposals.
Collaborate with Sales leader to develop win strategy, including industry and customer research, competitive landscape analysis, and stakeholder mapping.
Validate and cleanse data, develop baseline scenarios, and define modeling scenarios.
Develop optimization scenarios and strategies aligned with business objectives.
Improve engineering tools and methodologies to ensure industry best practices.
Use a consultative approach to understand customer pain points and present solutions.
Follow up on implementation and validate deployed processes.
Skills and Abilities
Superior data organization and cleansing skills.
Advanced design application, tool, and methodology skills for complex transportation and warehousing networks.
Familiarity with simulation tools, transportation & warehouse management systems, ERPs, automation, MHE, visibility tools, and industry‑leading technologies.
Strong analytical skills using facts, statistics, and analytics.
Comprehend complex supply chain solutions and segment design processes.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Professional relationship building across all levels.
Expert in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint).
Proficiency using AutoCAD for facility layouts.
Extensive knowledge of warehouse design, automation, and associated tools such as CAD, Slotting, MOST, and simulation software.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or Industrial Engineering.
Eight (8) or more years in the warehousing and/or manufacturing industry (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Warehouse Operations, Operations).
Travel 15%–20% (Estimated) – Remote position with some travel.
