Description
Must be a current, regular employee of EMA/MetroSafe.
Summary Objective
This critical role serves as the vital communications link between the public needing help and emergency services response. It requires the candidate to work independently in a high‑stress environment while receiving and evaluating incoming emergency and administrative requests for law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS). The candidate will triage these requests, provide guidance to the public in life‑safety situations, and coordinate appropriate responses to high‑risk, high‑stress operations, with the objective of keeping all participants safe.
Examples of Duties
Relay critical information and initiate emergency response services.
Advise responding field units of relevant safety information and broadcast supplemental data necessary to assist field units.
Monitor field units to ascertain locations and safety of personnel.
Provide specialized communications to service agencies and task‑force units.
Document all incident activities thoroughly and accurately while maintaining awareness of scene activities.
Maintain a public‑safety‑unit status file up‑to‑date.
Operate public‑safety radio systems, auxiliary radio systems, and computer‑aided dispatch equipment.
Triage incoming emergency and non‑emergency calls from sources such as wireline, wireless, text, video, or automated data feed.
Work mandatory overtime.
Minimum Requirements
Must be a current, regular employee of EMA/MetroSafe.
High school graduation or GED equivalent.
Special Certifications and Licenses
U.S. Citizen.
Minimum age 18 years.
No disqualification for recent cannabis use or controlled‑substance offenses as specified.
No felony convictions; misdemeanors considered individually.
Must submit to pre‑employment suitability, polygraph, fingerprinting, drug screening, and audiogram.
Must be certified as a Law Enforcement Telecommunicator and LINK/NCIC Basic operator (Full Access) in Kentucky or obtain within six months.
Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and hold Basic CPR from an American Heart Association provider or obtain within six months.
Physical Demands
Perform sedentary work involving walking or standing and exerting up to 10 pounds of force or sustained keyboard operations.
Work long shifts, up to 16 hours per day.
