Public Information Assistant (Marketing and Events Assistant) Position Summary

This role assists with the public information program for the Department of Chemistry. Works with administrative staff and faculty, serves as primary media contact, creates and manages marketing materials and event coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Public Relations & Media (60%)

– develop and maintain marketing materials, social media, website, media contacts, publish web announcements, design print publications, create photographic directory, write scripts for events, coordinate with other campus marketing teams.

Event Coordination (30%)

– plan and execute department events: meetings, seminars, celebrations, conferences; manage travel, venue, catering, promotion, track expenses.

Other Duties (10%)

– handle small purchases, support students, lead on additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Two years of experience gathering information, writing, producing materials, or a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, or related field.

Demonstrated ability to engage diverse audiences, promote inclusion.

Excellent computer and video management skills.

Experience developing and maintaining web pages.

Experience coordinating events and producing publications.

Preferred

Experience with professional presentations on social media.

Work Conditions

Work in Department Administrative office Monday–Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with 1‑hour lunch and two 15‑minute breaks.

May require outside hours for special events.

Compensation Starting salary at lower end of range; benefits eligible includes medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid leave, tuition reduction, work‑life programs, optional lifestyle benefits.
