About the Role Reporting to the Associate Principal, the Senior Designer is responsible for generating new concepts and fresh ideas on a variety of project types to meet client requirements. This position communicates and coordinates with consultants and computer graphics in developing and presenting conceptual design concepts. Additionally, the Senior Designer will function as a conduit between the conceptual design process and architectural implementation.

Position Overview

Mentor and develop staff in professionalism, technical skills, team collaboration, process improvement, and client relations

Support Design Director in maintaining team morale and production efficiency; lead regular staff meetings

Coach design staff, provide guidance, and recommend resources throughout the design process

Ensure effective communication to support project quality and performance

Monitor work of Designers and Illustrators to ensure high performance and efficiency

Assist in setting drawing standards, deliverables, and schedules

Currently employed in a formal U.S.-based architecture office

Experienced in multi‑family building planning and design

Strong focus on conceptual and schematic design phases

Skilled in building elevation design

Knowledgeable in building codes and accessibility standards

Proficient in residential construction systems: wood, light gauge steel, and concrete

Experienced in entitlement processes and coordination with civil, landscape, legal, and engineering teams

Conduct zoning ordinance research and prepare site plan and schematic design submissions

Present to zoning boards, ARBs, and community stakeholders

Manage junior staff, project budgets, and contracts

Strong knowledge of building materials

Proficient in architectural and presentation software

Effective in visual, verbal, and written communication

Able to manage multiple projects independently

Communicates directly with clients

Thorough understanding of state and local codes, including accessibility requirements that meet state and federal standards.

Education and/or Experience Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS), preferably in Architecture, or related field

Experience:

5+ years of experience

Software Proficiency:

Advanced skills in REVIT, MS Office required, Photoshop and/or InDesign a plus
