Job Description Job Description Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1 years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. A K-12 school in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a qualified professional to serve as a Visually Impaired Teacher on a contract basis. This role involves providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments to help them achieve academic success and independence. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to students with visual impairments or blindness. Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and daily living skills. Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure accommodations and modifications are effectively delivered. Conduct assessments to identify student needs and monitor progress regularly. Advocate for students access to educational resources and extracurricular activities. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in visual impairment education. Desired Qualifications: Valid teaching certification with a specialization in visual impairment. Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments. Strong knowledge of Braille, orientation and mobility techniques, and assistive technologies. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and educational teams. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Commitment to promoting inclusive education and student empowerment.
