Position Summary
The Communications and Content Manager leads the strategic and creative direction of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences’ external and internal storytelling. The role executes a dynamic content strategy that communicates the College’s mission, academic excellence, and community impact to diverse audiences, including prospective and current students and parents, faculty, alumni, donors, and the broader public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 5+ years professional experience in communications, content creation, or related field.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, academic environment.
- Strong understanding of audience segmentation and comprehensive communication practices.
- Demonstrated familiarity with a range of communications principles including messaging, writing, editing, graphic design, visual communications, branding, marketing, advertising, electronic communications, social media, and generative AI tools.
- Ability to communicate technical content to a general audience and a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience working with business/industry, alumni engagement, and development initiatives.
- Experience in a higher education, independent school, or nonprofit environment.
- Strong skills using technology in the workplace, familiarity with content management systems and email platforms; social media competencies.
- Significant prior communications experience writing and producing publications and developing and placing stories.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Execution of a comprehensive content strategy that supports the College’s mission and strategic priorities. Includes creating engaging and high-quality content for dissemination across digital and traditional marketing platforms (e.g., websites, print, newsletters, and social media channels).
- Writing and editing feature stories, press releases, faculty, student, and alumni profiles, informational web content, and promotional materials that showcase the College’s academic and research strengths and community impact.
- Support communication efforts that foster transparency and connection among faculty, staff, and students.
- Work with university communications and media outlets to amplify the College’s visibility and reputation.
- Collaborate with academic departments, development and alumni relations, the office of information technology, student academic services, government relations, and student ambassadors to ensure messaging is aligned, timely, and effective.
- Work with Department Heads and School and Institute Directors and individual faculty to support and represent their communication needs.
- Partner with vendors/agency partners as needed.
- Present to various stakeholders as required and perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
