Tax - Business Tax Services - Corporate Tax Manager
Location: Anywhere in Country
Overview EY Private Tax is a growing practice within the organization, focused on servicing privately held companies, from family‑owned businesses to private‑equity owned firms. The role offers a diverse portfolio of technically demanding tax planning and compliance projects, with opportunities for progression to senior manager.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing or reviewing federal and state tax returns for U.S. corporations, some partnerships, and related foreign reporting requirements.
Providing tax research, drafting memoranda, and assisting in quantitative modeling for private‑client tax advisory services.
Identifying and communicating significant tax matters to Senior Managers, Managing Directors, and Partners.
Liaising and developing relationships with other service lines and subject‑matter professionals.
Building effective long‑term relationships with clients, understanding their unique needs to provide tailored service.
Communicating complex tax issues to non‑tax professionals and clients.
Maintaining personal reputation by continually updating and sharing technical knowledge.
Managing, coaching, and developing a team of tax professionals, reviewing work, and confirming they have the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to excel.
Identifying and reacting to risks and opportunities to improve services and processes.
Skills and Attributes for Success
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, supported by tax, business, or financial planning experience.
CPA certification or membership in the bar.
Prior experience with ASC 740 tax provisions.
Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills, and confidence to challenge colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
Minimum five years of work experience in professional services or a professional tax organization.
A commitment to continuing learning.
Proficiency with tax software such as RIA, CCH IntelliConnect, OneSource, BNA, or Lexis Nexis.
Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring junior colleagues.
Willingness to travel as needed and work in a balanced hybrid environment.
What We Offer
Comprehensive compensation and benefits package, with base salary ranging from $106,500 to $195,100 (state ranges apply for specific metros).
Hybrid model: most external, client‑serving roles involve working together in person 40‑60% of the time over the course of an engagement or year.
