Job Responsibilities
Operate the campus postal station according to postal regulations
Serve as a cashier for the campus post office, dispensing stamps and accepting mail and packages
Pick up and deliver registered, certified, insured, and campus mail on established route
Make deliveries and pick‑ups to and from the U.S. Post Office
Use electronic tracking system for incoming packages and USPS‑accountable mail
Create mailing lists for bulk mailings using software
Work in document services as needed
Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE usage and safe handling of chemicals
Report any unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor and/or Environmental Health and Safety
Qualifications and Experience
Demonstrated ability to use email and learn basic mail‑sorting software
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service of postal products to the Colgate community
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
Experience working collegially and effectively with diverse constituents (students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni)
Ability to work as a member of a team
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Excel and Banner preferred.
Education & Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Valid driver’s license (required in accordance with the University’s Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy)
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Must be able to stand for long periods, climb stairs, and work in inclement weather
Ability to work weekends and overtime as required
Responsible for following all procedures to conduct work activities safely, including wearing required PPE and safe handling of chemicals as outlined by University policies and supervisor
Report unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor and/or Environmental Health and Safety

Department Information The Mail Services department, located on the lower level of O’Connor Campus Center, provides internal mail services for students, faculty, staff, and administration, and operates a contract station of the United States Postal Service, known as Colgate Station. Colgate Station handles all student mail and incoming packages, offering services such as money orders, registered mail, certified mail, parcel post, and sale of postal supplies. In addition to U.S. mail, University Mail Services distributes official University mail and notices to departments, employees, and students, with outgoing mail and inter‑office communications being picked up and delivered daily. This service provides an efficient internal distribution system for University business correspondence.
