Job Overview
FAR Inspections is seeking highly motivated independent contractors to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. These assignments are flexible and offer predictable full‑time or supplemental income. Whether you have prior inspection experience or not, success in this role relies on strong time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
What is an Occupancy Verification? Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties. Independent contractors conduct field inspections to confirm property occupancy and report general condition using a mobile app. Most inspections are exterior only; about 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.
Responsibilities
Complete the inspection within 5–6 minutes on average and finish the assignment within 4 days of assignment.
Report general property conditions and determinations of occupancy using industry standards.
Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments and complete a short form in the app.
Spend extended periods driving and making numerous stops within the assigned territory.
Requirements
Computer with reliable internet connection.
Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus; gas expenses are personal).
Smartphone (Android or iPhone) capable of running the inspection app.
Printer.
Pass a standard background check with a valid driver’s license.
Compensation and Hours This is a 1099 position. Each inspection is paid at a flat rate that varies by county and volume. Although paid per inspection, productivity can yield an equivalent of $30–$40 per hour. Depending on county and urban/rural designation, you may complete anywhere from 20–500 inspections per month while working 2–30 hours per week. Lower volume counties command higher rates, and higher volume counties offer more significant potential earnings. No additional mileage reimbursement is provided beyond the flat fee per inspection.
