Work Schedule and Compensation Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
Salary range:
$57,500 – $72,000 – $86,500 .
Ideal Candidate EPA Universal license required.

Job Summary The HVAC Mechanic maintains heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems throughout the MD Anderson South Campus facilities, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and system adjustments.
Essential Job Functions
Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems.
Set up and adjust commercial HVAC units; modify existing installations to meet performance goals.
Monitor and troubleshoot HVAC issues via BAS systems or other diagnostic tools.
Follow preventive maintenance schedules, recommend major overhauls, investigate outages, and order materials.
Maintain inventory of parts and tools.
Job Specific Competencies
Knowledge of typical HVAC control strategies.
Repair and calibrate HVAC equipment: air handling units, fan coils, terminal boxes, dampers, thermostats, sensors, control valves.
Read and interpret HVAC, mechanical, electronic, and electrical schematics, blueprints, and floor plans.
Respond promptly to dispatch work orders for diverse tasks.
Disable malfunctioning equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on rooftop exhaust fans and air handling units.
Repair exhaust fans, air handling units, and associated components (valves, filters, motors, bearings, shafts, squirrel cages).
Respond to temperature calls in hot and cold rooms.
Ensure proper air balance for positive or negative pressures.
Maintain lab and office mixing boxes.
Requisition parts and materials for repairs.
Install and maintain ductwork and grills for air distribution.
Additional Responsibilities
May be part of an on‑call group; availability as per policy.
Education
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Engineering, Technology, or Mechanical Engineering.
Work Experience
Required: 4 years in a mechanical field (commercial HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance) or 3 years with an Associate’s degree or 2 years with a Bachelor’s degree (as referenced by TDLR).
Licenses & Certifications
Required: EPA Universal Certification.
Preferred: Texas Driver’s License (Class A, B, or C) and eligibility to drive state and institutional vehicles.
Preferred: ACRC – Registered Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician (state of Texas).
