As part of the Research and Administrative Facilities (RAF) department, you will support operations and maintenance of research and administrative buildings, parking and transportation, audio‑visual and event operations, and exterior site operations across all Houston campuses and properties.
Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Salary US $57,500 to $86,500 per year.
Ideal Candidate EPA Universal license holder.

Summary The primary purpose of the HVAC Mechanic position is to maintain heating, ventilating, air‑conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems, ensuring their continued operation and performance.
Essential Job Functions
Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems.
Make initial settings and final adjustments of commercial HVAC systems and modify existing installations.
Monitor and troubleshoot HVAC issues through BAS systems and/or other diagnostic tools.
Follow preventive‑maintenance schedules and recommend major overhauls.
Investigate outages and order materials as needed.
Job Specific Competencies
Knowledge of typical HVAC system control strategies.
Assist with repair/calibration of HVAC equipment (air handling units, fan coil units, terminal boxes, dampers, thermostats, sensors, control valves).
Read and interpret HVAC, mechanical, electronic, and electrical schematics, blueprints, and floor plans.
Respond quickly to client “Dispatch” work‑order requests.
Disable malfunctioning equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on rooftop exhaust fans and air handling units for the MDA South Campus.
Maintain and repair all exhaust fans, air handling units for the MDA South Campus (chill water and steam valves, filter changes, replacement of motors, bearings, shafts, motor bearings, and squirrel cages).
Respond to customers’ temperature calls.
Perform and maintain air balance of rooms to ensure positive or negative pressures.
Maintain and repair all mixing boxes controlling lab and office temperatures.
Requisition parts and materials for repair and maintenance.
Install and maintain air‑conditioning ductwork and grills for proper air distribution.
Education
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Engineering or Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Engineering or Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
Work Experience
Required: Four years of mechanical experience including commercial installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration, control systems or other mechanical environments; or
Required: Three years of experience with an Associate’s degree (per Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations).
Required: Two years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree (per Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations).
Licenses and Certifications
Required: EPA – Universal Certification (Environment Protection Agency).
Preferred: Texas Driver’s License, Class A, B, or C.
Preferred: ACRC – A/C & Refrigeration Contractor Registered Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician (State of Texas).
