Ready to move your career forward? As an experienced Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and repairs on the newest and best-maintained fleet of vehicles in the industry. You will help our customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road.
Location : 226 Oxmoor Circle, Birmingham, AL 35209
Shift : 2nd shift, Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday.
Main Responsibilities
Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers
Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with minimal supervision and in a timely manner
Repair and troubleshoot major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, and fuel system components, including replacement of complete assemblies
Keep work area clean and safe
Use Penske’s tools and technology to log, research and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
Learn new skills through Penske’s technician training
Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
6+ years of practical experience with truck and tractor‑trailer maintenance
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
Specialized training and experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications preferred
Proficiency with welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools
Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred
Strong problem‑solving, customer service, communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions and travel within the district as needed
Basic computer skills
Full attendance and adherence to DOT, OSHA and Penske safety policies
Physical Requirements
Move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend and sit for extended periods
Use hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, feel and operate required tools or controls
Work safely at heights using ladders and elevated working platforms
Work safely in all weather conditions
See and hear to navigate the work environment safely
Regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally up to 100 lbs/45 kg; push/pull truck tires that exceed 100 lbs
