What’s the Job
As an experienced Diesel Mechanic/Technician I at Penske, you perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all levels of our newest and best-maintained fleet of trucks and trailers. Your role is to keep our customers’ vehicles safe on the road while working independently on major and minor repairs, diagnosing problems through road tests, and completing maintenance tasks.
Main Responsibilities
Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers
Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with little or no supervision and in a timely manner
Repair and troubleshoot major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, including replacement of complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
Keep work area clean and safe
Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
Learn new skills through Penske’s technician training
Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications
6 years of practical experience with truck and tractor‑trailer maintenance
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
Specialized training and experience in diagnosing/troubleshooting major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications (preferred)
Experienced using all tools of the trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and hand and power tools)
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
Strong problem‑solving, customer service, and communication skills
Ability to work well as part of a team and in non‑climate‑controlled conditions
Basic computer skills
Compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies
Full attendance and adherence to a required schedule
Current driver qualification file and ability to meet DOT requirements, including annual MVR, DOT Physical, and safety performance history records
Willingness to travel within the district, attend training sites, and undergo background and drug screening
Physical Requirements
Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods
Use of hands to grasp, reach, touch, and operate tools or controls on a routine basis
Safe work at heights using ladders and elevated platforms
Ability to work in all weather conditions
Visual and auditory awareness to navigate the workshop safely
Regular lift/move of up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg), including pushing/pulling truck tires exceeding 100 lbs
