Brooklyn Community Board #3 represents the neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant. The Community Board office assists residents with municipal service delivery requests, community concerns and issues. We are looking to hire a Full‑Time Community Associate, to report for in‑office work, available during business hours Monday – Friday – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for five days a week for various assignments at the Community Board #3 Office. Requiring some night meetings. Must be able to attend monthly General Board Meetings and other Meetings and Events as assigned by the District Manager.

COMMUNITY ASSOCIATE - 56057 Responsibilities

Fielding phone calls and emails from city agencies, elected officials’ offices, and the public

Assisting with the preparation for general board and committee meetings

Working on projects that advance district service and quality of life goals, providing status reports

Constituent Services, responding and resolving constituent service requests

Managing website updates, social media accounts, and board newsletter.

General office administrative tasks, including filing, scheduling, general correspondence, drafting letters and promotional materials, and posting public notices.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” above.

Preferred Skills

Excellent writing skills

Experience using Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Strong administrative and organizational skills

Excellent computer/social media and web posting skills

Passionate about public service and helping others

Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, city employees in certain titles who have worked for the city for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
