FAR Inspections is seeking a highly motivated Mortgage Field Services Inspector to conduct residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. The role is an independent contractor position offering flexible schedule and predictable full‑time or supplemental income.
What is an Occupancy Verification? Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties, and the purpose of the property inspection is to verify occupancy and report on general condition using a mobile application. Most inspections are exterior only; about 10% interior photos after a property has gone vacant.
Responsibilities
Complete most inspections within 5–6 minutes.
Finish inspections within 4 days of assignment.
Record property conditions and determine occupancy per industry standards.
Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
Complete a short form in the app.
Drive extended periods with frequent stops in the assigned territory.
Requirements
Computer with internet connection.
Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage a plus; you pay for your own gas).
Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
Printer.
Pass standard background check with a valid driver’s license.
Compensation & Hours This is a 1099 position. Pay is a flat rate per inspection; rates vary by county and volume. Expect to earn roughly $30–$40 per hour. Depending on county and urban or rural area, you may perform 20–500 inspections per month, working 2–30 hours per week. No set cap on inspections; higher volume counties have lower rates, lower volume counties have higher rates.
As you establish yourself, you can earn more by covering larger territory or working when more inspections are available.
No additional mileage reimbursement beyond the flat fee per inspection.
