R1919**GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION**The purpose of this position is to perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment. The position also provides guidance, instruction, and leadership to subordinate mechanics in the absence of the HVAC Supervisor, and performs related duties as assigned. Work is performed within a general framework of established procedures, with the employee responsible for determining appropriate work methods and task sequences under general supervision. This position reports directly to the HVAC Supervisor.**ESSENTIAL TASKS**The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.
Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC and refrigeration systems in County buildings and facilities.Provides guidance and support to co-workers, including training, leadership, and technical assistance; ensures all work orders are completed accurately and within established timeframes.Monitors and operates computerized heating and cooling systems; conducts chemical analyses to verify proper system performance.Performs preventive maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment to ensure optimal functionality and extend equipment life cycles.Troubleshoots and diagnoses system malfunctions and equipment failures; schedules and completes repairs or replaces components as needed.Assists the supervisor with planning, coordinating, and executing major installation, repair, and maintenance projects.Maintains tools, equipment, and materials in proper working condition and ensures their safe and efficient use.Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed by utilizing the department’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).Performs all duties in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, codes, regulations, and safety standards; ensures timely and high-quality completion of assignments.Participates in training, workshops, and meetings to stay current on industry practices, equipment, and job-related skills.**VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:**Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in HVAC maintenance or a closely related field.**SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:**Must possess a valid state driver’s license.Must possess, or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire, a Journeyman HVAC certification.Must possess, or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire, a Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification (EPA Section 608 or equivalent).**EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:**Requires over two years and up to and including four years.**PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:**Requires medium-to-heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, reaching, pushing or raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Requires climbing and working from ladders.**ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:**The job may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, toxic/caustic chemicals.Compensation Minimum: $23.92Thank you for your interest in employment with Richland County Government.
