Job Title Therapeutic Recreation Specialist – IRP 1 (Department: Harding | Rehab Therapy)

Responsibilities The Ohio State University Medical Center’s Therapeutic Recreation program evaluates, screens, and treats patients. The staff establish treatment goals, implement therapy plans, and complete patient teaching and discharge planning. The team also provides equipment for diversional activities, manages volunteer coordination, and updates program offerings with new treatment techniques, groups, or co‑treatments. Activities are designed to facilitate patients’ transition to home or community life.

The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist delivers patient treatment via recreational modalities and educational materials to maximize post‑discharge outcomes. The role serves as the primary contact for community links and acts as a liaison among patients, staff, and consumers of Rehabilitation Services. The specialist also serves as a resource across the continuum, providing information and support to anyone within the OSU continuum.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Ohio Driver’s License

Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited school

Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)

One year of experience as a CTRS preferred

Maintains an active CTRS status and Ohio Driver’s license

Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions
