Elmcrest Country Club is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Elmcrest is a Private 18-hole country club located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Currently working on executing a long-range plan that includes renovating bunkers, building new tee complexes, improving course infrastructures, pond dredging, and a recently completed irrigation upgrade. With these exciting changes coming, we are seeking a motivated individual to help lead our staff and projects.
Assistant Superintendent responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assists in planning daily work schedules
Assists the Lead Assistant Superintendent in the training of employees.
Assists in the supervision of various construction projects.
Applies fertilizers and pesticides as needed.
Must be able to identify common turf diseases on the golf course.
Must keep accurate records of applications to the golf course.
Helps prepare the course for daily play.
Keeps informed on course starting times and special events.
Able to grind reels and assist the mechanic as necessary.
Assists in snow removal.
Sets good examples for others to follow in job performance, work safety, equipment care, attendance, and striving for efficiency.
Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, and lift between 50-100 lbs.
Educational Requirements:
Completion of a 2- or 4-year degree in turfgrass management or a related field is preferred. Prior experience is encouraged but not necessary.
Skills Needed:
Leadership, communication, writing, and record-keeping skills
Critical thinking skills to problem solve effectively
Ability to obtain an Iowa Pesticide Applicator's license and apply fertilizers and plant protectants
Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and in different weather environments
Knowledge of the game of golf and its rules
Valid driver’s license
Professional in manner and appearance
