What you will be doing Our EMS 2 will play a key role in coordinating and implementing grant-funded disaster recovery programs across the state, participating in and leading disaster response and recovery operations, supporting the State Emergency Operations Center, and managing emergency communications and assistance requests. During emergencies, they may be deployed to local communities to coordinate state responses and assist in disaster planning and preparedness efforts, ensuring effective management and recovery statewide.

Special Notice Special Notice - JBER (BASE) ACCESS. The successful applicants must pass a federal background check to qualify for military base access. The background check may include fingerprinting. All offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a DBIDS card. You must maintain the clearance throughout employment. If using a private vehicle, this requires a valid Alaska Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid Alaska vehicle registration.

Experience and qualifications Required experience/education (select one):

One year of entry professional level experience mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, or recovering from emergencies, disasters, or terrorist events. This experience can be met by service as an EMS 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere.

Two years of entry professional level experience creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating recovery from such events.

A bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college, and one year of entry professional level experience as described above.

Special Note:

A valid Alaska driver’s license is required. Some positions may require a federal security clearance. Work may require periodic on-call duty and travel to remote locations, possibly in small aircraft and boats, with exposure to hazardous conditions.

Other requirements : Work may involve travel to remote field sites using boats, small aircraft, and helicopters; be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and confined areas; demonstrate flexibility and experience with such environments.

Last two (2) performance evaluations if current or former State of Alaska employee; or three (3) professional letters of recommendation if evaluations are unavailable.

Three (3) professional references with titles, including current supervisor and one former supervisor.

Transcripts if using education to meet minimum qualifications.
