Position Overview The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the overall leadership, clinical oversight, and operational management of the pharmacy department within an acute care hospital setting. This role ensures safe, effective, and compliant pharmaceutical services while aligning departmental goals with organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities Direct and manage all pharmacy department operations, including clinical services, workflow, and patient care delivery Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental goals, policies, and procedures Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation regulations (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA) Oversee medication safety, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives Manage pharmacy staff including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and corrective actions Prepare, manage, and monitor the departmental budget and resource allocation Coordinate and support internal and external audits Integrate evidence-based practices into pharmacy operations and clinical protocols Collaborate with medical staff and hospital leadership to support patient care and organizational outcomes Foster a professional environment that supports staff development, accountability, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications Active Utah Pharmacist license or ability to obtain prior to start date Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited program Prior acute care hospital pharmacy experience Proven leadership and people management experience
Preferred Qualifications Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Previous pharmacy management or director-level experience Experience in a rural or community hospital setting Strong background in regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness
