Responsibilities

Support the Deli Manager in all areas of department operations and supervision

Provide daily oversight for deli clerks and other deli staff

Deliver excellent customer service — friendly, responsive, and product‑knowledgeable

Maintain department goals for sales, labor, shrink, inventory, quality, and presentation

Ensure proper food handling, workplace safety, and compliance with all policies

Assist with product ordering, merchandising, pricing, stocking, and shelf allocation

Perform deli clerk duties when needed (slicing, prepping, stocking, cleaning)

Take charge of the department when the Deli Manager is not present

Supervise 2–30 associates depending on shift volume

Oversee the seafood and/or LaCarte areas as directed

Qualifications

Soft skills:

Friendly, communicative, and customer‑focused

Strong attention to detail and product presentation

Ability to motivate, guide, and support team members

Calm, adaptable, and able to make decisions in a fast‑paced environment

Competencies:

Leadership and team supervision

Food safety awareness

Operational and merchandising execution

Problem‑solving and good judgment

Knowledge:

Deli, fresh foods, or grocery department operations

Food safety and sanitation procedures

Company and department policies and procedures

Abilities:

Train staff, assign work, approve schedules, and provide coaching

Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy

Perform repetitive tasks and work in freezer/cooler environments

Maintain a safe, organized, compliant department

Educational requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Other requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old

Able to wear required hair restraints

Work involves cold, refrigerated, or freezer environments

Availability for peak customer hours, weekends, and holidays

Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on the length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay and retirement benefits pension and/or 401(k) eligibility.
