About the Position
Mt. Hawley Country Club is seeking an individual to take the position of Assistant Superintendent. This individual will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in managing all aspects of the golf course and grounds. The assistant golf course superintendent schedules daily tasks, supervises and trains employees. We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated and wants to develop as a professional in this industry. Mt. Hawley Country Club offers a unique opportunity to grow and learn in this industry. Responsibilities
Scheduling and managing daily tasks
Chemical and fertilizer applications
Irrigation repair and maintenance
Disease & pest scouting and identification
Management of trees and landscaping
Operate within the set operating budget
Conduct appropriate cultural practices to playing surfaces
Initiate improvement projects
Work with staff to ensure course is maintained based on our maintenance standards and agronomic plan
About the Club Mt. Hawley Country Club is a private 18-hole club founded in 1922. Its name honors the original land owning family and its scenic overlook of the Illinois River. The membership and grounds staff take great pride in its 100 year old club. The golf course is expected to be maintained at the highest quality and standards. Many renovations have taken place in recent years. The entire course was renovated in 1997; including the construction of California style putting greens. Recent renovations have resulted in a new maintenance facility, new irrigation system, new cart paths, and new Better Billy Bunkers in 2025. The club has begun planning renovations to tee complexes, landscaping, addition of no-mow/ fescue areas, and new tennis and pickleball courts. Tennis and pickleball courts are scheduled to be completed in 2026.
Requirements
2-3 years of golf course maintenance experience
(Preferred) Minimum 2-year degree or certificate in agronomy or a turf-related field
Pesticide operators or applicators license or ability to obtain in 60 days upon employment
Experience applying fertilizers and pesticides
Experience operating and repairing irrigation systems
Knowledge of IPM and disease management
Additional Requirements
Be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, weekend schedule to be set by Superintendent and Assistant
Communicate with membership in a positive and professional manner
Highly motivated, willingness to learn and grow in the industry
