
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey – a leading national research university and the State of New Jersey’s preeminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education – invites applications for a Senior Labor Relations Specialist in the Office of Labor Relations. The position, under the direction of the Director for Staff Labor Relations and the Assistant Vice President for Staff Labor Relations, will assist in negotiation, interpretation, and administration of collective bargaining agreements for Rutgers University.
Responsibilities
Participate in collective negotiations, design and deliver workshops on employee and labor relations subjects, and develop and administer university employee and labor relations policies and procedures.
Assist in the presentation of proposals at collective negotiations sessions, researching and preparing proposals for collective negotiations.
Lead, guide, instruct, and assign work to Labor Relations Specialists as authorized by the Director for Staff Labor Relations and the Assistant Vice President for Staff Labor Relations.
Resolve a wide variety of complex employee‑supervisor- and union‑related employee and labor relations issues.
Advise supervisors and employees about labor and employee relations matters.
Conduct research on existing, new, and anticipated legislation as requested.
Provide guidance on grievance procedures.
Collaborate with University Human Resources to recommend new and existing HR policies.
Work regularly with the Office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel on grievance and disciplinary arbitrations, PERC proceedings, and contract interpretation issues.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of progressively more complex experience in labor relations or human resources in a unionized environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of employment and labor law issues; proficiency in databases and spreadsheet software; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant advanced degree or law degree.
Prior experience in higher education and/or the public sector.
Experience in employee or labor relations in an academic medical center or healthcare facility.
Experience costing proposals and wages in labor negotiations.
Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for business travel.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
Salary Grade 07: Minimum Salary $94,492.00, Mid‑Range Salary $119,604.00, Maximum Salary $144,715.00. Final salary offer is determined by qualifications, experience, and other factors.
