
Human Resources Specialist
Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school located in Tuscan‑Canterbury, Baltimore City, seeks an immediate full‑time Human Resources Specialist to administer payroll, manage the HRIS system, and support employee benefits programs.
Responsibilities Payroll
Process accurate and timely payroll and maintain the payroll and HRIS database.
Process an annual 1099 filing.
Manage payroll deductions, garnishments, taxes, and year‑end reporting (W‑2s, etc.) and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
Verify all tax reports are filed and generate payroll reports for departments and compliance purposes.
Partner with the finance department on payroll reconciliations.
Benefits Administration
Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs and reconcile benefits invoices.
Assist employees with onboarding and off‑boarding, benefits questions, eligibility, and enrollment changes; ensure compliance with benefits‑related regulations (COBRA, FMLA, ACA, etc.) and assist with audits and compliance reporting.
Assist the Director of Human Resources with FMLA and disability leave requests.
Assist in the administration of risk management programs, including workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance claims, and incident reporting.
Miscellaneous
Assist the Human Resources Department with daily operations of the school store, ordering and restocking inventory, sales tracking, and customer service; maintain accurate inventory records and conduct periodic audits.
Other work‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, human resources, or related field.
Two to three years of related experience with a payroll and HRIS system strongly preferred.
High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills; proven ability to work under strict deadlines; requires absolute confidentiality.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment.
Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 to $75,000.00, depending on qualifications. Compensation is negotiable and will be commensurate with the candidate’s years of experience, skills, and overall fit for the role.
