JEL-Co. Construction, a wholly owned subsidiary of JEL-Co., is in growth mode and is looking for a skilled Superintendent to grow with the organization. The Superintendent serves as the on-site leader for assigned commercial construction projects and is fully responsible for field execution. This role provides hands‑on direction, leadership, and accountability for field staff and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and at the highest standards of quality. The Superintendent is directly accountable for jobsite safety, schedule performance, cost control, documentation accuracy, subcontractor management, and overall project profitability.

Responsibilities and Duties

Lead and manage all on‑site construction activities from mobilization through closeout.

Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop and execute project schedules and budgets.

Maintain a deep working knowledge of all project documents including drawings, specifications, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, shop drawings, and correspondence.

Develop and implement field logistics plans, construction sequencing, and manpower strategies.

Select construction methods and coordinate equipment procurement and deployment.

Drive schedule performance to ensure timely project completion.

Safety And Compliance

Enforce all OSHA requirements and company safety policies without exception.

Conduct regular safety meetings and job hazard analyses.

Hold crews and subcontractors accountable for safety compliance.

Maintain all required safety documentation and reporting.

Superintendent will be held directly accountable for overall jobsite safety performance.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor, EEO, and non‑discrimination laws.

Field Team Management

Supervise field employees, foremen, and subcontractors.

Provide daily direction and performance feedback.

Hire, assign, or release field personnel as needed to maintain safe and efficient operations.

Conduct regular coordination meetings with subcontractors and field supervisors.

Train subordinates in company policies, performance expectations, and quality standards.

Cost Control and Documentation

Monitor labor productivity and manage labor unit reporting.

Oversee accurate preparation of payroll, safety reports, and daily reports.

Review, approve, and verify invoice coding and project expenditures.

Protect project margins through disciplined cost management and oversight.

Identify and elevate budget risks proactively.

Quality Assurance

Inspect work in place to ensure compliance with contract documents.

Maintain high workmanship standards to drive repeat business.

Coordinate inspections and quality control processes.

Knowledge Skill Abilities

Strong ability to prepare and manage detailed construction schedules and field execution plans.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings and specifications.

Solid understanding of cost control, labor tracking, and field productivity metrics.

Proficiency in construction management software and MS Office.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to lead large teams and drive results with limited oversight.

Strong problem‑solving ability under pressure.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience on commercial construction projects.

Demonstrated experience managing field personnel and subcontractors.

Experience with ground‑up or significant renovation projects preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to traverse uneven terrain (mud, sand, ice, snow, rough surfaces).

Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

High situational awareness and mental stamina during demanding project periods.
