The Sales Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing proactive sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue goals across all earned income streams. These include admissions, memberships, birthday parties, facility rentals, exhibit rentals, gift cards, field trips, and other revenue-generating opportunities. The Sales Manager drives new business development, leads sales initiatives, manages staff, and ensures best-in-class customer engagement to grow the Museum’s reach and sales performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, implement, proactively sell, and monitor earned revenue streams such as admissions, memberships, birthday parties, facility rentals, exhibit rentals, gift cards, field trips, and other earned revenue streams
Identify and develop sales strategies collaboratively with VP of Marketing and Sales and other museum departments, as appropriate
Identify target audiences for specific revenue opportunities and compile databases of target audiences for proactive outreach
Create and manage annual department goals
Create strategic partnerships and working relationships with external organizations to optimize the museum’s reach to children ages 0 – 8 years of age
Collaborate across departments to ensure proactive and consistent sales messaging and strategies
Identify and attend appropriate trade shows and expos and business development events
Gather customer feedback to improve or develop sales offerings and events
Work interdepartmentally innovating new revenue opportunities; conduct competitive analysis to understand market trends and expand impact
Partner with Marketing to ensure sales initiatives are fully supported by promotional efforts and member/user communication
Participate in annual budget process by developing sales projections and managing associated expenses
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the Sales Team staff
Manage staff development, training, and performance evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Five+ years of professional sales experience
Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
Demonstrated success in sales strategy development and revenue generation
Proven track record of reversing declining sales or attendance trends and rebuilding growth within a compressed timeframe
Experience developing high impact, cash positive sales initiatives that drive rapid revenue gains while maintaining mission alignment
Experience selling or promoting interactive, experiential, or time bound offers, with emphasis on articulating value and elevating perceived worth
Demonstrated success using data to identify declining segments, uncover new opportunities, and implement rapid-cycle experiments to improve conversion
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to pivot strategies quickly in response to dynamic market conditions such as inflation, tourism variability, and changing family behavior patterns
Excellent verbal and written communication, public speaking, presentation, negotiation, and networking skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Demonstrated high degree of initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Strong service-orientation and interpersonal skills to work effectively with prospective customers, partners, and museum staff
Ability to analyze attendance, sales, and visitor behavior data to uncover actionable insights and quickly implement corrective strategies
Skill in designing and selling premium, immersive, or limited time experiences to increase urgency, demand, and perceived value
Comfort with rapid testing, iteration, and refinement of sales approaches
Strong understanding of current trends in family attractions, children’s museums, and experiential entertainment sectors
Demonstrated ability to form revenue boosting partnerships that increase reach and drive new visitation quickly
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver’s license, own vehicle and good driving record
Flexibility with work schedule, as necessary, to support weekend scheduling and/or evening activities
WORKING CONDITIONS
Customary office-related activities: standing, walking, sitting, bending with moderate lifting (up to 15 pounds)
