Position Summary The Director of Food Services is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of food service operations within an organization. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to provide high-quality, nutritious, and appealing meals to customers while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Director of Food Services will collaborate with various departments to optimize efficiency, enhance customer satisfaction, and achieve financial goals.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

Provide visionary leadership to the food services team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

Recruit, hire, train, and supervise food service staff, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.

Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Encourage professional development and training opportunities to enhance the team's capabilities.

Menu Development and Nutrition

Design diverse and nutritious menus that cater to the preferences and dietary requirements of customers.

Collaborate with nutritionists and dietitians to ensure the meals meet all nutritional standards and requirements.

Regularly update menus to incorporate seasonal ingredients and stay relevant to changing food trends.

Quality Control and Food Safety

Implement and enforce rigorous food safety and hygiene standards throughout the food services operations.

Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, local health codes, and organizational policies.

Address any issues promptly and take corrective actions to maintain high-quality food preparation and service.

Vendor Management and Budgeting

Establish and maintain relationships with food suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and contracts.

Monitor inventory levels and ensure cost-effective procurement of ingredients and supplies.

Develop and manage the food services budget, ensuring financial targets are met while maintaining the quality of service.

Operational Efficiency

Optimize workflow and processes within the food services department to increase efficiency and productivity.

Monitor meal preparation and service operations to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.

Customer Relations

Engage with customers to understand their preferences, gather feedback, and address any concerns or complaints promptly.

Strive to enhance customer satisfaction and build a loyal customer base.

Compliance and Regulation

Stay up-to-date with relevant food service regulations, ensuring full compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.

Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and adherence to best practices.

Sustainability Initiatives

Promote and lead initiatives to reduce food waste, implement sustainable practices, and support environmentally friendly food service operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Food Service Management, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and/or a minimum of two years supervisory culinary experience (advanced degrees or certifications are a plus).

Proven experience in food service management, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role.

Strong knowledge of food safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Creativity in menu development and a passion for providing exceptional food service experiences.

Proficient in budget management and financial analysis.

Familiarity with sustainability practices in food services is desirable.
