Medinah Country Club, located approximately 25 miles west of downtown Chicago, is seeking a motivated and team-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join an elite agronomy team, contribute to daily championship conditioning, and play an integral role in preparing for the upcoming Presidents Cup. This is an opportunity for a motivated turf professional to grow, lead, and develop within one of America’s most distinguished golf environments. Founded in 1924 by a group of Shriners, the club has evolved into a world-renowned destination celebrated for championship golf, architectural heritage, and ongoing innovation.

The club features three 18-hole championship courses:

Course #1 — redesigned by Tom Doak in 2013

Course #2 — restored with the original design intent of Tom Bendelow

Course #3 — redesigned in 2023 by OCM Golf, host to numerous major championships and international events

Medinah has hosted some of golf’s most prestigious tournaments, including the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and the Ryder Cup, most famously the 2012 “Miracle at Medinah” comeback. The club will host the Presidents Cup, becoming the only club in the world to host all four marquee events.

Club Highlights:

2025 Maintenance Budget: $7M

Capital Budget: $2.5M

Total Annual Rounds: 60,000 (including 12 outings)

Total Staff: ~20 off-season, ~100 in-season

Typical Work Schedule:

In-Season: 12 days on / 2 days off, overtime expected

Off-Season: 5 days on / 2 days off + rotating snow duty

Turf Types:

Greens/Tees/Fairways: Bentgrass

Rough: Bluegrass/Rye/Fescue

Feature Rough: Fescue

Buildout and restoration work for the 2026 Presidents Cup

Irrigation System: Toro x 2 and Rain Bird

Equipment: Purchased, non-brand-specific

Initial Priorities of the Position:

Support all agronomic and operational preparations for the Presidents Cup

Learn and integrate into Medinah’s agronomic standards and workflow

Assist in daily operations, moisture management, crew leadership, and project execution

Maintain championship-level turf quality across all course surfaces

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude:

Assist in the execution of daily golf course maintenance and tournament conditioning

Lead, train, and supervise staff, interns, and AITs

Perform chemical and fertilizer applications

Maintain irrigation practices including hand-watering and troubleshooting

Participate in agronomic data collection and recordkeeping

Operate and care for a wide variety of equipment

Support ongoing and upcoming capital projects and renovations

Promote safety, communication, and team culture

Uphold club standards and core values

Preferred Qualifications:

2–5 years of golf course maintenance experience

Required education: Certificate, Associate, or bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field

Candidates without the required education may be considered with equivalent experience

Illinois pesticide license (or ability to obtain within 90 days)

Leadership ability, strong communication skills

Experience at high-end private clubs preferred

Compensation & Benefits:

$25–$27/hour OR approx. $80,000 annually, depending on experience
