Columbia Country Club is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team at one of the most historic and forward-thinking clubs in the country. This position is ideal for a driven professional looking to develop into a top-tier Golf Course Superintendent while working in a championship-caliber environment.
Founded in 1898, Columbia Country Club has a distinguished history of hosting premier events, including the 1921 U.S. Open, 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur, 2021 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, and the upcoming 2027 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur. In June 2026, the club will proudly host the 105th Maryland Amateur Championship.
Columbia is an exciting place to work, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and investment in the golf course. Over the past five years, the club has completed significant capital projects, including:
Tahoma 31 bermudagrass fairway conversion
Installation of a Toro 2-wire irrigation system
Complete bunker reconstruction utilizing the Better Billy Bunker system
Ongoing Master Plan improvements across the property
Additional tee renovations and continued course enhancements are planned throughout 2026.
Position Overview This role offers the opportunity to be deeply involved in all aspects of a high-performing golf course operation, with a strong emphasis on leadership, agronomy, and championship-level conditioning.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and execute daily course setup and maintenance operations
Advanced water management on push-up poa annua greens
Irrigation operation, troubleshooting, and system optimization
Fertilizer and pesticide calibration, application, and planning
Disease identification and proactive turf management
Supervise, train, and develop a 20+ member team
Participate in Green Committee meetings, including preparing and delivering presentations
Assist in long-term planning and execution of capital improvement projects
Maintain clubhouse grounds and overall property presentation
Assistants are encouraged to play golf regularly to better understand course conditions and the member experience.
Ideal Candidate
2- or 4-year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field
Proven ability to perform at a high level within a team-oriented operation
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
High attention to detail and passion for championship conditions
Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
Self-motivated with a positive, growth-oriented mindset
