USED CAR DIRECTOR
Walt Massey Auto Group is seeking a high-performing, process-driven leader to serve as our
Used Car Director . This role will own and drive used vehicle performance across the entire group.
We are looking for someone who understands our culture, our standards, and our expectation of accountability.
Used vehicles represent a significant portion of our variable operations. This role is not about desking deals. This role is about ownership — ownership of strategy, velocity, accountability, and results.
Core Responsibilities The Used Car Director will be responsible for the following group-wide functions:
1. Inventory Turn
Establish and enforce turn targets by store
Monitor aging daily and weekly
Drive velocity-based decision-making
Ensure pricing and exit strategy aligns with turn objectives
2. Coaching & Accountability on Appraisals
Train managers and sales teams on proper appraisal process
Implement consistent walkaround and acquisition standards
Monitor appraisal accuracy and performance
Eliminate over-allowance and acquisition mistakes
3. Merchandising
Enforce photo, description, and data completeness standards
Maintain strict time-to-front-line expectations
Protect digital relevancy across platforms
Hold stores accountable for merchandising quality
4. Balancing of Inventory
Maintain proper mix by price band, segment, and turn rate
Ensure inventory aligns with each store’s market and demand
Prevent over-concentration in slow-moving categories
5. Wholesale Disposal
Establish clear 30-day and aging exit strategy
Oversee wholesale channels
Prevent aged inventory from eroding gross and capital
6. Inventory Stocking
Guide acquisition strategy (trade, auction, direct purchase)
Align stocking levels with sales pace and turn objectives
Prevent overstocking or understocking
7. Inventory Health
Track aging buckets (0–15, 16–30, 31–45, 45+)
Monitor recon timelines
Identify capital trapped in non-performing units
Deliver weekly inventory health reporting
8. Pricing
Establish consistent pricing methodology
Ensure competitive market positioning
Implement structured price reduction cadence
Remove emotional pricing decisions
9. Identifying Low-Performing Inventory Early
Develop early warning indicators
Monitor VDP activity and engagement
Flag units needing pricing adjustments or exit
Protect gross by acting early, not late

Not reactive
Not a reporting-only position
This role is proactive, data-driven, hands-on, and accountable for measurable performance improvement.

Candidate Requirements
Proven success managing used vehicle inventory performance
Strong understanding of velocity and capital management
Ability to coach and hold leadership accountable

Strong communication and leadership skills
Must be willing to live in Mississippi
This is an on-site leadership role requiring physical presence and engagement with our teams.
