Job Summary The Resident Director manages day‑to‑day operations of a residence hall(s), creates a living‑learning environment, coordinates residential programs, and ensures an academically supportive atmosphere. This 12‑month live‑in position includes a furnished two‑bedroom apartment and meal plan.
Responsibilities
Assist with selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Graduate Assistants, Resident Advisors, and Desk Assistants
Develop duty schedules and maintain payroll records
Conduct staff meetings and individual staff meetings at appropriate intervals
Monitor staff actions to ensure policies and procedures are upheld
Maintain high contact with students by being visible and establishing office hours
Assist with training workshops and in‑service programs
Investigate and report incidents
Serve on or provide leadership for Residence Education or University Housing committees
Serve on University or Division‑wide committees
Attend in‑service programs and conferences for professional growth
Support student success and personal development
Advise and recruit student leaders for building programming
Maintain availability outside normal business hours as essential personnel
Coordinate room change and occupancy processes with Administrative Services
Coordinate opening and closing procedures of residence hall(s)
Manage building budget for programming and student leadership activities
Respond to on‑call duties, emergencies, and advise staff on protocol
Work with facilities staff to maintain safety, cleanliness, and upkeep of the residence hall(s)
Adjudicate conduct cases using online conduct manager software
Train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate student staff and graduate assistants
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
Master’s Degree in higher education, counseling, student services, or related field
Experience Requirements
At least one (1) year of related work experience in higher education student affairs
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Experience
Supervisory experience
Experience in a residence hall environment
Salary $39,837 – $44,000 per year (exempt, paid monthly)
