Compliance Specialist
Addison Group is seeking a Compliance Specialist to oversee regulatory compliance across a portfolio of affordable housing properties. This individual will conduct audits, support recertifications, collaborate with site teams, and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local housing regulations. The ideal candidate has direct experience working with government-regulated affordable housing programs and is comfortable traveling between multiple sites. Key responsibilities include conducting detailed file audits to identify missing documentation, calculation errors, or compliance gaps; performing on-site reviews of resident files; maintaining tracking logs for completed and upcoming audits; partnering with community managers to ensure corrections are implemented accurately and timely; preparing documentation and supporting properties during regulatory audits conducted by state and federal agencies; reviewing applicant files to determine eligibility for affordable housing programs; responding to site staff inquiries regarding income verification, asset calculations, rent limits, and compliance standards; assisting with implementation of updated income and rent limits, as well as utility allowance calculations; and supporting annual contract renewals, rent adjustments, and monthly housing assistance payment tracking. Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with affordable housing programs including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC); monitoring adherence to Fair Housing, ADA, and other apartment industry regulations; participating in safety and compliance training as required; reporting regulatory violations, safety concerns, or operational risks appropriately; and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of housing compliance standards and regulatory changes. Qualifications include a minimum of 2 years of affordable/multi-family housing experience, minimum of 2 years of property management compliance experience, and direct experience working with HUD, HDC, and LIHTC programs required. Technical skills should include proficiency in Yardi Voyager Property Management software and strong Microsoft Office skills. Soft skills include being proactive and self-directed, personable and confident communicator, strong sense of urgency and accountability, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work independently while collaborating with multi-site teams. Education & certifications include a Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) or similar certification preferred. Additional considerations include being willing and able to travel between properties in NY, NJ, and MA, candidates should be prepared to discuss direct experience working with HUD, HDC, and LIHTC programs, and please confirm travel flexibility when applying.
