Under the general direction/supervision of the Executive Director, generally oversees all aspects of the athletic program, including hiring coaches, scheduling, budget preparation, promotion, compliance, and facility management.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides guidance and direction for the school’s sports program
Prepares budgets and allocates spending on items such as coaches' salaries, team travel, equipment purchases, and facility rental
Coordinates with coaches about the scheduling of games and practices
Collaborates with conferences and leagues about scheduling issues
Speaks with league officials about subjects such as postseason play
Determines the time allocated for a field, court, or weight room
Works with coaches to plan trips
Coordinates officials and umpires at games and budgeting for their pay
Files reports on the status of each team and its successes and shortcomings
Mediates any disputes between athletes and coaches or between coaches
Tracks and maintains a record of scholar eligibility and clearance
Attends league meetings and trainings
Oversees and supervises home games
Other duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths
Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a working athletic coach in an academic setting; administrative experience preferred
Special Skills:
NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching and NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
Demonstrated ability to participate in physically demanding athletic activities
Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods
Ability to exercise good judgment and work in a dynamic environment
Professional and friendly disposition
Type of fingerprint clearance: Shall be fingerprint checked pursuant to A.R.S 15-512
Physical functions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; run; jump; stretch; stand; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs, ropes, or ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision. The employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.
Equipment used Athletic and weight training equipment
Work Environment The work environment is a standard athletic practice venue and event setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is regularly exposed to hot outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and/or bloodborne pathogens.
Travel This position requires the ability to travel to and from school events and activities. Must be available to accompany the team to sporting events.
