Chronicle – Social Media Manager

Scholarship Position Description This position is awarded a scholarship for 2026-2027. All scholarships are determined by position, time commitment, responsibility, and financial budget determined in April. Applications will be accepted until MARCH 25, 2026. Expectations ATTENTION: This position requires a significant time commitment. If you are chosen and accept this position, it will be expected that you can satisfactorily meet the time commitment necessary. This means that you agree to not accept other positions outside of student media or otherwise make commitments that will impact your ability to meet these expectations.

Editorial and Production

Manage all Chronicle social media accounts, posting daily with appropriate and professional messaging.

Edit all content to meet AP Style guidelines and journalistic standards.

Work with student media advisors to maintain best practices across all social media platforms.

Attend Editorial Board meetings and report on social media performance and analytics.

Strategy and Distribution

Develop and execute strategies to increase engagement and follower count across all platforms.

Run analytics to measure engagement and follower growth and build strategies for continued improvement.

Meet regularly with the Multimedia Director to discuss social media content, performance, and strategy.

Team Management

Recruit and maintain a team of social media contributors in consultation with the Multimedia Director.

Ensure all contributors receive proper onboarding and training prior to posting content.

Hold regular check-ins with contributors to monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.

Regularly respond to messages via Slack and Gmail and attend all mandatory meetings.

Evaluation

Meet with the Multimedia Director regularly to evaluate the newsletter’s progress and address any ongoing challenges

Qualifications

Prior leadership and/or management experience preferred.

Preference given to applicants with prior experience at The Chronicle or in Student Media.

Must be able to commit to the demanding schedule and maintain high levels of activity and quality of work.

Proficient knowledge of social media platforms including Instagram, BlueSky, and TikTok required.

Experience or knowledge of media marketing and content distribution, particularly in social media and community outreach, preferred.

Content management, audience engagement, editing, or similar experience preferred.

Understanding and working knowledge of necessary software and tools used in social media required.

Must be enrolled student progressing satisfactorily toward a degree.

Major or minor in mass communication, journalism, strategic communication, or a similar field preferred.

Applicants for this position will be reviewed during spring 2026 and interviews will be scheduled by the Chronicle leadership. The position is open until filled. The experiential learning term is May 2026 through April 2027.
